Background

QIIB sought a local design partner who could move fast, understand the Qatar market, and bring UX expertise to improve their digital banking experience. Their previous designs struggled with mobile application best practices, leading to inconsistencies in user experience. Existing design processes were slow and lacked scalability, making it difficult for the bank to introduce new modules efficiently. They engaged Descifer to bridge this gap, ensuring seamless execution while maintaining their existing design system.

Challenges

The project presented several constraints:

  • Legacy Design Language – QIIB’s previous designs lacked standardization, making it challenging to expand new features while maintaining consistency.
  • Scalability & UX Research – Designing new modules required a deep understanding of banking UX while aligning with user expectations and compliance regulations.
  • Conversion-Focused Design – Every module needed to drive user actions effectively, balancing usability with business goals.
Without solving these issues, QIIB risked slower adoption of new digital services, lower engagement, and an inconsistent customer experience that could impact trust and usability.

Our design team led the project with a structured, efficiency-driven approach:
  • Maintained a consistent design language, ensuring all new modules felt native to the app.
  • Designed with user conversion goals in mind, prioritizing ease of use and seamless banking interactions
  • Conducted UX research to optimize each module for customer needs, balancing simplicity with advanced functionality.

Solutions

Descifer successfully delivered nine high-impact banking modules within a short 3-4 month period, driving QIIB’s digital transformation:
  • Brokerage Group Module – A dedicated feature for investment and trading within the app.
  • Onboarding for Brokerage – A streamlined process to help users sign up and access brokerage services easily.
  • E-Certification Generation – Users can generate bank certificates (e.g., balance, salary) instantly with a small online payment.
  • Swift Confirmation Module – After sending payments, users can generate swift-coded messages to share with recipients.
  • Payment Tracking – Allows users to track transactions in real time, estimating processing times.
  • Expanded Dropdown Experience – A categorized dropdown to simplify 40+ purpose-based selections.
  • Product Dashboard Module – A centralized hub showcasing all of QIIB’s banking products with data visualization.
  • EKYC Onboarding – Fully automated account creation, enabling users to open accounts via mobile without visiting a branch.
  • Smart Search – An AI-powered search tool allowing users to quickly find services and navigate seamlessly.

Impact

Through a structured retainer, Descifer helped QIIB execute nine major banking modules in just 3-4 months, significantly accelerating their digital banking roadmap. While performance data is still being collected, the improvements have positioned QIIB as a more agile and user-centric bank. With a scalable, standardized design system now in place, QIIB can continue to evolve its digital services efficiently, ensuring long-term success in the competitive fintech space.
